About MOSIP

  • MOSIP is a robust, scalable, and inclusive foundational identity platform.
  • The Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP) helps governments and other user organizations implement a digital foundational identity system with identity verification services in a cost-effective manner.
  • Nations can use MOSIP freely to build their own identity systems with identity verification. Being modular in its architecture, MOSIP provides flexibility to countries in how they implement and configure their identity verification systems, helping to avoid vendor lock-in.
  • Anchored at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B), MOSIP harnesses the power of open source and embraces the best practices of scalability, security, and privacy.

Technoforte’s Experience on National ID

  • At Technoforte, we specialize in developing and implementing digital identity solutions on ID systems like Aadhar, MOSIP, etc. The identity verification services provided by us include:

    • Authentication and E-KYC services.
    • Authentication is used to validate an individual’s identity using various methods, such as One Time Password, Demographic, Biometric, or a combination of these factors known as multi-factor authentication. Once the information is captured from the user, it is validated against the repository using a 1:1 match to confirm the individual’s identity.
    • A Virtual ID can also be generated to keep the user anonymous and used for authentication and identity verification services.
    • An E-KYC authentication service is also provided as part of identity verification services, where the individual’s authorized set of attributes will be returned. The information returned is governed by a policy. The E-KYC data will be digitally signed and sent to the requesting party.
    • Online authentication and offline authentication can be performed using a cryptographic service, where a cryptogram will be printed on the identity card.
    • Chip-based authentication involves embedding biometric details in the chip on the identity card.
    • Demographic data normalization is also conducted before performing auth/E-KYC.
    • A hotlisting feature is available, allowing the ID to be blocked in cases of suspected fraud to protect against identity misuse.
    • Authentication lock/unlock (for a specific period) and duplicate card download features are also available.
    • The single sign-on feature provides a login provider to enable access to all services without creating another set of login credentials (username/password combination).

SBI Compliance for Biometric Devices

MOSIP requires devices to capture biometric information, which must adhere to a set of technical and compliance standards/protocols. At Technoforte, we have developed APIs as per the Secure Biometric Interface (SBI) for biometric hardware to ensure MOSIP compliance.

We build APIs that facilitate interaction between the biometric hardware and MOSIP software. Our Identity Verification Services include the following:

  • Compliance with any biometric device
  • SBI for any biometric hardware for whitelisting the devices
  • Testing and validating compliance

Device Management Server & Client

The devices used in MOSIP are required to connect with the management server and obtain the device provider’s certificates digitally signed by the MOSIP national identity system.

The management client is the interface that connects the devices with the management server.

Key Responsibilities of a Management Server:

  • Validate devices to ensure they are genuine
  • Automatic registration of devices in a plug-and-play model
  • Digitally signed communication with the management server
  • HSM-based storage of Device Encryption Keys
  • Timely rotation of keys for additional security and reliability

Key Responsibilities of a Management Client:

  • Communicate with the Management Server for auto-registering the biometric devices
  • Obtain the device signed certificate from the Management Server
  • Check for the expiry of the certificate for timely Key Rotation

MOSIP 3rd Party Integrations

Technoforte has the expertise to interface MOSIP with various related ecosystem applications and devices. Examples include:

  • Civil Registry Systems (e.g., OpenCRVS)
  • Offline Authentication Systems (e.g., IDPass)
  • ABIS and ABIS SDK
  • 3rd Party ID Registration Client
  • Business Intelligence Applications
  • Others

MOSIP Rollout & Support

Technoforte supports countries in nationwide rollouts of national ID and identity verification services through the following activities:

  • Setup of Central PMO for Rollout Management
  • Rollout Team Formation and Scheduling
  • Setup of Hardware Peripherals & Required Software at Registration Centers
  • Training and Handholding of Field Personnel
